Why do I feel bloated even when I eat healthily?
This is a question I hear ALL the time in my clinic.
You’re eating healthily, avoiding processed foods, not drinking alcohol and you may have even dabbled with pausing something like gluten and yet you are STILL bloating. Why?
I totally understand the frustration that comes from seemingly doing all the right things and your body not responding in the way that you want or expect.
The thing is, gut health isn’t solely about what you eat. In fact, so many gut health protocols forget to cover the all important aspect of your nervous system.
Your gut only digests properly when its in “rest and digest” mode – your parasympathetic nervous system state. When you’re in this state, your body can –
- produce stomach acid
- release digestive enzymes
- move food smoothly through the gut
- absorb nutrients properly
But when you’re stressed, rushed or overwhelmed, your body switches into fight or flight mode instead; and when that happens digestion is one of the first things to pause.
Why this can cause bloating
If digestion is slowed or disrupted, then several things can happen, for instance –
- Food may not be broken down as efficiently in the stomach
- Enymes might not be released properly
- The movement of food through the gut can slow down.
When any of these things happen, food can sit in the digestive system for longer than it should and this can lead to bloating, gas and/or discomfort. Have you ever had it where your guts get better when you’re on holiday? This is one of the reasons why.
This is why digestion is influenced by so much more than just food.
How Kinesiology looks at the whole picture
Rather than assuming there is a single cause to someone’s digestive issues, in Kinesiology we can look at multiple factors – stress responses, food sensitivities or whether the body is lacking in digestive enzymes or other nutritional support.
If you get bloated even when you’re eating well
A Kinesiology session can get to the root of what is truly going on, looking at how you eat, how your body is performing and working and what may need to be changed with you and your nervous system to get your digestion working at its optimum again.
You know where I am if you need my help.
